List of Kayak Launch Sites on Long Island.
Some are great for fishing. Some are great for touring. We rate them for you.
If you have a site you love, email it to us so we can check it out.
If we want to keep launching sites open or get more sites open we have to use them.
Towns don't close things that bring in money and encourage things that get thier parks used.
Location: Inspiration Wharf
Town: Port Washington, NY 11050

Fees: $5 for dock use. Free to customers of Atlantic Outfitters
Services: Water for equipment wash down, Atlantic Outfitters, R&G bait and tackle, Restaurants
Points of interest: Osprey nests at Leeds Pond
Fish-ability: Excellent
Notes: Better fished in AM and evening. Less boat traffic.
Touring: Excellent
Notes: Great access to back of Manhasset Bay. Waterfront homes are spectacular.

Points of interest: Mainstreet shops and restaurants. Atlantic Oufitters next door.
Fish-ability: Good.
Notes: The new kayak launch is in. If you are unsure where it is ask at the Harbor Master office.
Touring: Good
Notes: The new kayak launch is in. If you are unsure where it is ask at the Harbor Master office. Baxter beach and sheets creek are a nice paddle. Watch out for boat traffic here. It can be a busy.
Location: Manorhaven Park
Town: Manorhaven, NY 11050
Parking: $15 for non-residants, $10 for residents
Fees: For use of pool.
Services: Water for washdown, snack bar, pool, tennis courts, deli across the street.
Points of interest: Creek at high tide.
Fish-ability: Excellent
Notes: Great launching site with beach access. Closest access to mouth of Manhasset Bay and Long Island Sound.
Touring: Excellent
Notes: Great launching site with low boat traffic. Hug the shore to the west and paddle under the marinas. Check out the cove inside Plum Point.
Location: Bar Beach Park
Town: Port Washington, NY 11050
Parking: $15 for non-residants, $10 for residents
Fees: For use of boat ramp to launch trailered boats.
Services: Water for washdown, snack bar, bath house, fishing pier.
Points of interest: Back of Hempstead Harbor.
Fish-ability: Excellent
Notes: Great launching site with beach access. You must pay for parking and you are limited by the park hours. Channels in the harbor are great for trolling. Make sure to check the weather, this harbor can get very lumpy in a Northerly wind.
Touring: Excellent
Notes: Great launching site with low boat traffic. The back of the Harbor is for non-powered boats only.
